All genuine should have a Wellington postmark

7  different types of forgeries were described in volume 1 of “The Postage Stamps of New Zealand” (RPSNZ, 1938):

  • 1. Letters are 4mm high, stops distinctly oblong. Color: rose and purple
  • 2. Letters are 2,5mm high, stop circular. Color: purple, red & black
  • 3. Letters are 3,5mm. Color: purple
  • 4. Letters are 2,75mm high. O’s are round and the P’s has a very large head. Color: purple
  • 5. Letters are 5mm high. Color: purple
  • 6. Letters are sloped and have serifs. Color: black
  • 7. Made from a rubber type from a cheap printing set
