Forged Postmarks
Postmarks with stars left and right of the date are easy identifiable forgeries. The postmark was used as a receiving mark (reverse side only) in the Royal Prussian Regional Post Office in Hamburg in 1866-67 and later under the North German Postal District during 1868-71. Except for one known piece of postal stationery, it was never used as a cancelling device. It may be found on any of the stamps or reprints of Hamburg, with virtually any date in 1866 or 1867.
