Genuine vs. Forgeries

Words of Wisdom

According to expert Stefan Petriuk: “if you can’t figure out what type of Przedbórz stamp it is, then it’s a forgery.”

Genuine stamps have no lettering on the sheaf or hammers.

Forgery type I

  • – Generally crude or coarse printing
  • – The banner to the right of ‘1918’ has a larger gap in the bottom-left corner of the top (close to ‘8’) compared to genuine stamps

Forgery type II

  • – “PPM” written on the hammers and top of sheaf. The “P” on the sheaf is sometimes hard to see.
  • – Both inner frame lines end above “Miasto Przedbórz”. On all other genuine and forged types at least one descends to the top of the value box.

Forgery type III

  • – “Z” is Groszy has a short top, about 1,3mm-1,4mm, thus it does not extend as far right as the bottom.
  • – Right foot of “M” in Miasto almost touches the “I”
  • – Top of the hammers are 0,5mm shorter

  • – Left foot of “M” in Miasto almost touches the “I”
  • – Top of the hammers are 0,5mm shorter
